‘Comparing the Copperbelt: Political Culture and Knowledge Production in Central Africa’ is an ambitious and exciting research project that will provide the first comparative historical analysis – local, national and transnational – of the Central African copperbelt. We are seeking a Research Associate to join the project team, with a particular focus on the cultural history of the copperbelt region. You will conduct research in close collaboration with the rest of the project team, meeting regularly to share findings, discuss sources, and collaborate for purposes of research publication and dissemination.

You will hold a doctorate in a relevant subject (or show evidence that a doctorate is imminent), and be able to research in the languages relevant to your specialism; you will have a capacity for excellent independent research, and also for working as part of a team engaging in innovative forms of collaborative research in the Humanities and Social Sciences. You will have outstanding communications skills, and the ability to write to a deadline.
